Meet TerJuana
One week before my wedding, I felt a lump in my left breast and I decided that I would get it checked after our honeymoon. Two weeks later, we returned and proceeded to the doctor’s office, I had a mammogram, and an ultrasound. They found something in BOTH breasts and decided to perform a biopsy. By this point, I am a bit concerned because this is all happening in the span of 60 minutes. My husband was with me the whole time, praying. I informed my mother; she left work to meet me at the clinic and joined in prayer with my husband as well. We prayed that whatever the outcome was, we were not going to worry because we are firm believers in God.
The following 2 days we were awaiting results from the biopsy. I received a call from my doctor, and she informed me that I was diagnosed with aggressive, triple positive, stage 2, Invasive Ductal Carcinoma breast cancer. I said, “Ok, what is the next step?” There was such a sense of peace that I had after receiving this unfortunate news. I knew this journey wasn’t going to be easy, but I had some positive people around who knew what to do. I went through chemotherapy, bilateral mastectomy, reconstruction, and 5 years of hormone blockers. I recently celebrated 5 years of No Evidence of Disease! I was so happy that I did a photoshoot to commemorate the moment. I share my story with you to remind you that there IS hope! If I was able to walk through this journey, so can you.
